The Ultimate 360 Spring Cleaning
Your room may look clean but how about your soul?
Mmm.. ahh.. finally spring is here and the smell of the rain is starting to creep its way back into the air. Spring cleaning often is known and related to getting rid of clothes you don’t need and cleaning the corners of your kitchen that you often pass over during your daily cleaning routine. Sure, the physical world is a very important aspect to take care of. But it’s also very important to focus on a larger aspect like… trashing out the junk in your mind.
For months now, you’ve been working hard to achieve the items on your New Year’s Resolutions lists. Some you’ve checked off immediately with great contentment, some you’ve lost momentum for while others are still sitting there on your list, unchecked, undone.
Some part of you may feel stressed right now in an effort to try to figure or it all out. Hey, I’m with ya.
Let’s take this time to instead focus on cleaning the constructions of our minds.
Are the circumstances that you are in right now in alignment with your desires?
If not, then perhaps it’s time we do a special rinse.
Clear your thoughts
How much rumbo jumbo do you have going on in your mind right now? Is it constantly rambling and you can’t seem to make it shut up? It’s easy to let our minds get hi jacked by a long list of to-do things in the future.
But when we allow ourselves to slip into this phase, we are expending a lot of wasted time and energy in thoughts of something that simply does not exist.
The best way to clear your thoughts of all the things you think you need to do, is to write it all down.
On a piece of paper, list one by one all the thoughts you have going on in your mind.
All the questions that you keep asking yourself.
All the statements that you keep making.
All the curiosities and what if’s.
All the to do things that keep wandering around in your mind.
These are all natural habit patterns of the mind.
Once you write this all down, take a look at it and reflect upon what you just wrote.
Now ask yourself 2 things:
Is there an absolute need for me to do this right now?
Is this worth my time and energy pondering about right now?
The goal is to emphasize on the RIGHT NOW in this present moment
Out of all the things you listed,
What matters the most to you ?
What will help you right now in achieving and coming closer to your end goal?
For instance, if your goal to lose X amount of weight, what can you do RIGHT NOW to get there?
It would look something like:
Focusing on your nutrition and diet. Being consistent in your workouts. Taking it all one meal at a time.
If it was concerning meeting cash flow goal at your workplace, it would be taking incremental measures of effective practices you can put to place to make it work in the NOW.
If you have other questions and statements you have in your head about losing weight or work or whatever it is that you’re trying to achieve and it does not pertain to the right now, get rid it and flush it out your head.
You’re going to find a few interesting things and come to some interesting realizations.
One interesting realization is that most of the things you thought you needed to do and stressed over, doesn’t even matter.
Analyze your relationships
“You become the 5 people you spend most of your time with. Choose carefully.”
We all know I am a lover of human beings. Seriously. I love em all. But I am only who I am today because of the kinds of people that I surround myself around versus the kinds of people that I do not. It’s a critical aspect that I pay attention to in my life as I seek to be around great influences, positive vibes, supportive and passionate people who empower one another. When you surround yourself about motivated, ambitious people of dreamers and doers, people just like you. You are more likely to increase the chances of succeeding in your endeavors. When you spend the majority of your time with people who are negative, who look down on you, who make you feel limited, your creative energy is not being exerted and you are less likely to move forward in your reaching your goals.
Are your friends spending the majority of their time drinking, partying, and talking smack about people?
Or do they spend the majority of their learning, laughing, having meaningful conversations that give you room to grow?
Whether it’s in your work life or your friends or even your lover, ask yourself
“Is this person adding value to my life, do they make me feel eager to get up and take control of my life?”
“Does this person provide encouragement and support?”
If the answer is no, do yourself a favor and be brave enough to say “no thank you” and walk away.
Keep a tight circle of great influencers and teachers. People who you can learn from but also people who can learn from you.
In relation to the previous post, the next is also analyze relationships and detox on social media as well.
First take some time away from your all your outlets, leave a note to your followers, deactivate yourself, or simply just don’t use for a short period so that you can alone with yourself and your innermost thoughts.
What kinds of people are you following?
How are they adding value to your life?
Is it comedy? Is it quality? Is it selfies with duck kissing lips in the mirror? Or is it meaningful, dense information or quotation that often makes you ponder?
For instance, fitness instagrams are great to follow for motivation. As a matter of fact, I used to share my entire, raw, process of my fitness journey shot by shot, progress pic by progress pic on my instragram journal. It was great because I used myself as an instrument to motivate others and to show them that they have control and that they can do it too. To prove that all it takes is hard work, determination, real good and exercise. No fad diets or high profile pre workouts or post workout pills or powders needed. But my point became less apparent with fit body pics, it seemed as though less were reading into my soul and words but moreso, emphasizing more on my body with comments like “Omg, I want your body.”
I want to be a positive role model to young girls and to any females who follow me on my social networks. I want to empower females to show them that they can do it too. But will showing selfies in the mirror get that point across or will it cause anyone looking at it to develop the 21st Comparison Syndrome.
The people I follow on my social networks, in particularly in the fitness world, are people who provide dense, value driven, motivating, inspirational and powerful messages under their photos. They aren’t about selfies in the mirror and they care more about nourishment to the body and daily healthy living lifestyle versus 6 pack abs made from eating junk and intermittent dieting (some). In regards to Facebook and Twitter, unfollow those who have a negative outlook on life and those who complain or bash on what they hate.
Instead, follow those who promote what they love and are passionate about doing it. I think this step is so important as the things we read throughout the day helps to nourish our thoughts.
The more negative things we read and encounter, the more negative we become. The more positive things we read, the more positive we become.
The more you can let go of the things that do not serve you well, the more space you are creating in your life for the things that do serve you will.
Cleaning and detoxing of the mind of demons such as doubt, fear and sadness is integral to creating free space in the mind. Let go of the self imposed doubts you place upon yourself.
Let go of your fears and remember of all things,
“You are already naked.” –Steve Jobs
There’s nothing left for you to lose. Remove your doubts and take the leap.
Let go of the mess and fall into the space of new beginnings.
Spring is a time for rebirth and new adventurous. Use it to set and position your sail.
Cleaning the body
Have you been letting yourself go this winter? Did you find yourself indulging too much and now you feel a little groggy? First and foremost, know this:
It’s okay. Don’t beat yourself over and know that you are not alone. Humans are not much different than animals. In the winter time, it is our natural state to hibernate for warmth and comfort. In the summer, it’s easier to be toned and fit due to higher active levels and sweating from the sun. However, in the winter, the body will almost naturally start packing on fat as a way to protect itself and to create insulation in the body to keep you warm. So don’t fret if you’ve gained yourself a couple pounds. It’s absolutely normal. But now is the time to start transitioning into cleaning the body and detoxifying it. One way to do this is to juice.
Using a Breville juicer, my favorite juicing combo is
2 cups kale
2 stick celery
¼ c pineapple
1 cup spinach
1 small green apple
A safe method to detox and clean the body is to replace 2 of your meals with juice or simply eat whole nutrient densed vegetables throughout the day.
In my experience, this helps to ease the digestive system, clean the vital organs in your body, and increase your metabolism.
Lastly, have you had the chance to sit down with all your priorities? Whether it’s appointments, scheduled events, or meetings?
Figure out things you need to say “no” to.
As much as my heart and soul enjoys giving to others and saying yes, sometimes the best way to help yourself is to say no. When you say no to others, you are saying yes to yourself. This is important to remember for givers like you and I. We enjoy and are passionate about sharing our lessons, experiences and all the knowledge we have with others. But if we are doing this at the expense of our well being, how much are we actually helping?
Learn how to say “no” to certain things so you can more time to say “yes” to others.
Of all the scheduled events you have on your calendar, how many of those do you actually need to go to? Cross off or deny the ones that you can’t and keep the ones you can. Or just change the dates to allow yourself some adequate timing.
Unclutter yourself from the chaos. You know you can do it.
Ultimately, spring cleaning involves many macrocosmic, multifaceted views.
We not only need to focus on the physical such as cleaning out the closet and donating to charity but we also need to focus more entirely on the inner states of our being. Our mental, our emotions, our thoughts, our feelings and our consciousness.
This is your time to do you. Find your happiness and stick to it. Renew, refresh and remind yourself of the goals you look forward to crushing everyday and go for it. Vitalize your spirit and let your light shine through.
Love and light,
