Juicing 101: Guidelines for Beginners

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, I highly highly recommend you take a read and a watch at that documentary. I promise if you care enough about your health, it will change your life. It’s how I created a new nutritional lifestyle change and it serves as the foundation to my nutritional beliefs.



The benefits that you will inherit from a 2-3 day juicing fast is absolutely remarkable, I say 2-3 days because depending on your body type, any longer will add some defieciencies to your health as you are minimizing other nutrients that your body needs. 2-3 days is just enough to detoxify and cleanse your body for ya 😉

Here it goes:


All you need are some veggies and a great juicer. I highly recommend you to invest a good working one. I tried to go for cheap when I first started and you know what they say, “You get what you pay for”. It sucked and my juice came out pulpy which is not what we want. I recommend using the same juicer that Joe used in his documentary called Breville


Get your cart ready and swing yourself on over to the produce section. Pick up some of your favorite fruits & vegetables.

I like choosing vegetables that are dark in color because those are the most nutrient densed and contain the most fabulous sources that my body needs. For fruits, I like sticking to fruits that are low in sugar, preferrably berries.

Greens: Kale, spinach, celery ( lots of water in the celery, I add it to every cup) 

Vegetables: Tomato, carrots, broccolli

Fruits: apples, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, mango, PINEAPPLE mmm.

Lemon: One of my favorite super foods that will not only help detoxify the body, but multiply the nutrient absorption rate up to 5 times. If you juice it with the peel, the essential oils in it will help to make it a super immunity booster.

#24HWL Tip: Be sure to shop for veggies that have HIGH WATER CONTENT because those are the easiest to juice. For example, soft foods like bananas or avocados cannot be juiced because they don’t have much water in them, that’s why they make for PERFECT smoothies.

#24HWL BUDGET TIP: Please be sure to rinse your vegetables of the pesticides, chemicals and dirt. A HOME NATURAL MONEY SAVING REMEDY I use to clean off all bacteria is APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. 

Sometimes we don’t have money to purchase organic goods. I know I didn’t at times. But what do we do? We don’t make excuses, who make solutions. Use apple cider vinegar to rinse off ALL chemicals. It’s very simple. Take a large bowl and soak your vegetables in the bowl OF WATER MIXED WITH ABOUT 1/4 c APPLE CIDER VINEGAR for about 5-10 minutes. Then use a brush to scrub off any dirt. This will ensure that any forms of chemicals on the vegetables are not being consumed by you when juicing the produce.

Simply put together your favorite combinations and start juicing, its super fun using that machine!


Most people are concerned with juicing ( since it is a form of fasting) and how it will make them feel. Well of course, it’ll make you feel rejuvenated, refreshed and you will definitely learn yourself how to be mindful. I love how vital I feel after a full day of juicing. Not to mention my skin looks amazing. The energy is high as well and surprisingly you will stay full for a good 3-4 hours. Of course this all depends on the individual, so if you ever feel low on energy or discomfort or super dizzy, listen to your body increase caloric intake by increasing a denser vegetable like CARROTS in your juice.

Once you learn the habit of being mindful, you will find that listening to your body isn’t such a hard thing to do. You’ll learn which vegetables your body likes or dislikes and so forth.


Drink a lot of water. You should already be drinking up to a gallon a day anyways.

DO NOT train weights. I’ve only been doing light cardio (dancing) and light burst of resistance workouts.

Drink about 6-9 cups a day or whenever you are hungry. Yes this means you will be needing a lot of produce so get to shopping!


DO NOT depend on this to lose weight ( although you will) Remember, if you’ve learned anything from reading my book, you know that FAST is NOT the answer. Juicing is not a form of weight loss. While most people use juicing to lose weight, in 24HWL we use juicing to REFRESH ourselves and reset ourselves on a clean slate by nourishing our bodies with NUTRIENT RICH produces riighttt?! Right.

DO NOT consume large amounts of food immediately after you are done with your 3 day cleanse. You are to slowly consume food and introduce it to your body again. IF you gorge on food after your cleanse, YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT.

DO NOT consume all fruits in your juice as that is a moderately high consumption of sugars and adds way too much acidity so always include leafy greens. Add KALE to any juice. Love love kale.

DO NOT juice and leave it in the fridge for days then drink. Drink immediately after juicing because that’s when the NUTRIENTS and enzymes are the most active.

By the way, lemon is a super food that will not only help detoxify your system, it also multiply your nutrients absorption rate up to 5 times.  Juice it with the peel for its bioflavonoids and essential oils that make it a super immunity booster.

FAVORITE JUICING COMBO RECIPES that I have come up with over the year:

Sandy’s Greenery

1 green apple
1 inch knob ginger
5 large stalks celery
1 cucumber
1 large handful parsley
5 stalks kale

Sandy’s  VIRGIN Mojito

1 cucumber

1 large pear
1 large handful mint
½ lime

1 green apple

3 sticks celery


1 pineapple cut up into medium size chunks, crown and base chopped off & skin peeled

3 cups kale

3 sticks carrots

4 sticks celery

1 apple

1/2 squeeze lemon


I was super happy last night because my mom who has always made excuses for her health (i’m too old, I’m too tired, I don’t have time, I love food too much) ASKED ME if I wanted to wake up early and work out with her. I was so shocked because as I say, you cannot help those who do not want to be helped. For that reason, I never impress my ways upon people unless they ask for it. But she finally asked me?! WOOT! Made my morning. But here we are on our morning walk and I made my favorite: REFRESH ME PLEASE drink for us when we got back. Feeling amazing.
