How to Awaken Your Giant

With whatever you choose to do in your life, whether it’s excelling in your education, work, or health, your strong sense of will and relentless commitment to accomplish your goals determines who you are more than anything. It shows your character to thrive in a world where the daily news informs us with “problems”. To me, there aren’t problems. Only opportunities. As my idol Tony Robbins likes to say, we all have a giant sleeping inside of us waiting to be awakened. That giant comes in the name of strong will and power, something we all have. All it takes is that one moment to stomp our feet and make a decision. And the initiation to take compelling action until we get to where we want to be.

The photo on the left is solid proof that I allowed myself to gain back heavy weight again after losing it within the year. But what I didn’t allow myself to do was give up. I was discouraged but that’s okay, because I knew with everything in me that that giant was bigger, stronger, and an oppressive fighter beyond all measures. Discouragement could not win me over. Doubt did not exist, only a mere force of strength and determination. You have that very same giant sleeping inside of you, it’s up to you to believe in yourself enough to wake it up.

1. Eliminate all self doubt.
Believe in yourself to 110%. Eliminate all “what if’s”, “can’ts”, “buts” and ” I don’t knows”. Why doubt yourself? You know you can do it. You have what it takes. All you have to do is make it happen.

2. Do not allow the discouragement of critics, “failure”, or mishaps take over.
You will have people judging you. You will encounter people who will call you obsessed. But ask yourself, is it really because you’re obsessed or is it because they’re uncomfortable with your discipline? Remember, what people think of you is their business, not yours.

3. Think hard of all the reasons why you want to make the change.

Have a moment to yourself to really think about why you want these changes. What are your main reasons? Start with why.

4. Eliminate all excuses.

A lot of people aren’t aware of the many different hats that I wear but I do what I do because I love it. Being a full time student on two E-Boards for organizations in my school, an intern to a wonderful advancing company, studies for an independent research, sharing my thoughts on this blog with you all and not to mention trying to find time to balance time with my friends, it’s so easy to say “I don’t have time”. But when the hammer hits in the nail on the head, if you want something bad enough, you WILL make time for it at every intangible cost. There WILL be no excuses.

5. Take Action.
Give it your very best shot. What’s the point of giving 99% yourself? It’s just like giving zero. My attitude has always been all or nothing. Either I invest my full into it, or I won’t at all. There’s no medium. Decide what it is that you want, and take action. Nike, says it best, Just do it.

I hope that revealing my imperfect self can help you to believe that you too can make the changes that you want in your life, as long as you believe. I’m not embarrassed but rather blessed to be sharing my flawful journey with people who are humans just like me. We all slip here and there, that’s okay. But it’s those that tie a knot at the end of the rope to hang on at the end of the day that will really shine through. Keep yourself determined my loves.
