7 Reasons to Include Ginger in Your Diet

Mmm, I love the unique, zingy taste of ginger. It compliments some dishes very well. As a ginger lover, lucky for me, it’s not just about the way it tastes, it’s also the benefits that I reap from it in which now you can to! Ginger has been extensively used in herbal remedies since a long, long time ago. I’m talking about 2000 years. It’s most popularly used as a medicine in countries like India and China, so it’s nothing new. Here are 7 reasons to include ginger in your diet. Hmm, shall I say reasons or benefits?

Benefit #1: Ginger is effective against the common cold and prevents the flu.

For purely steaming and clearing the nasal passages, fresh ginger root seems to be effective. Grate it into boiling water and inhale. You can also purchase pure oils for this method. Relieve headaches related to the common cold with a poultice of ground ginger and water applied to the forehead.

Benefit #2: Ginger has strong anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful to arthritis.

In a study conducted by the University of Miami, it was found that ginger extract could one day be a substitute to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The study compared the effects of a highly concentrated ginger extract to placebo in 247 patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The ginger reduced pain and stiffness in knee joints by 40 percent over the placebo. This is because of those anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer and antioxidant properties that make it so helpful. These are all natural, potent, pain killing properties.

Benefit #3: Ginger helps to get rid of nausea including morning sickness.

Forget about feeling sick in the morning. Ginger combats this and demonstrated success with curing morning sickness and the upset stomach.

Benefit #4: Ginger is soothing to store throats.

I don’t remember the last time I took a pill for a sore throat during cold winter coughing season. I use a simple Ginger home remedy by boiling ginger roots in hot water and drinking up like a baby. The effect of the natural roots helped to clear congested passages in my throat almost immediately.

Benefits #5: Ginger improves absorption and strengthens your immune system

Ginger improves the absorption and stimulation of essential nutrients in the body. It does this by stimulating gastric and pancreatic enzyme secretion. If consumed daily, it can also strengthen your immunity. It also decreases bacterial infections in the stomach.

Benefit #6: Ginger boosts your sex drive

Once consumed, ginger increases the blood flow throughout your circulatory system. Your body warms up in a way that is parallel to how your body reacts during sex which makes you feel hypersensitive. In fact in a study by theUniversity of Ibadan in Nigeria in 2002, they tested testosterone levels in rats for 8 days. During those days, they were given water with a ginger infusion while also testing their testosterone levels. The conclusion was that the rats experienced an increase in the weight of the testes, testosterone levels, and testosterone cholesterol levels. This shows that the male sex is increased and therefore, so is the sex drive. Well, there’s another headache remedy for ya.

Benefit #7: Ginger boosts your metabolism

This is my favorite benefit because metabolism is a very important factor in staying lean and fit. In a study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research, results showed that ginger helped to control the digestive system due the absorption of nutrients into the system that then regulates the metabolism cycle. Gingerol, an active component in ginger that activates the muscular activity in the digestive track and stimulate the chemical reactions in the digestive system.
